Are you passionate about gender equity, immigrant empowerment, and community development? 

The Iranian Women’s Organization of Ontario (IWOO) is seeking committed, community-driven individuals to join our Board of Directors. This is an exciting opportunity to shape the future of a grassroots organization dedicated to empowering women, immigrant, refugee and their families through advocacy, support services, and cultural programming. 

 

Who We Are 

Founded in 1989, IWOO is a registered charity led by and for immigrant women. We offer culturally responsive programs ranging from settlement support and youth engagement to mental health, language classes, Art classes, summer activities for kids, entertainment programs, volunteer engagement and women’s empowerment workshops. 

 

About the Role 

As a Board Member, you will provide strategic oversight, contribute to governance, and help IWOO fulfill its mission and vision. IWOO’s board is an operational & decision-making board. We are looking for individuals who can bring diverse perspectives, professional expertise, and a deep commitment to community-leading change. 

 

Responsibilities 

  • Attend monthly board meetings (first Wednesday of each month, 6:00–9:00 PM) 
  • Lead and participate in at least one board committee and fulfill its responsibilities 
  • Actively support fundraising, outreach, and community engagement initiatives 
  • Contribute a minimum of 10 hours per month to board-related activities 
  • Uphold ethical, and strategic responsibilities 
  • Adherent to organizational policies and relevant legislation 
  • Serve as an ambassador for IWOO in your networks 

 

Ideal Candidates Will Have 

  • Experience in one or more of the following: social work, digital marketing, grant writing, non-profit governance, law, fundraising, HR, strategic planning, community development, or youth programs 
  • Prior experience in volunteer or supervisory roles (an asset) 
  • Lived experience as an immigrant, woman, or marginalized community member (strongly encouraged) 
  • Familiarity with the Persian-speaking community and/or feminist, equity, or anti-oppression principles 
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills

The events committee is one of the oldest IWOO committees. Since its founding, we have been increasing awareness for IWOO’s services in our everyday lives with the objective to have as many classes and sessions per month as possible.
